ANISE
(Pimpinella Anisum L.)
 

AniseIt’s a wonderful expectorant, anti-inflammatory and antitussive. Taking as infusion half little spoon of dry fruits by cup of water, two or three cups a day after eating, it will be relieved a lot. Even it’s excellent for bronchitis because it helps to expel the mucus and lower the inflammation.

The anise is a perennial medicinal plant of the family of the Umbelliferae of until 50 cm of height. Erect, pubescent, rounded and striated stems that start from a great ligneous root. Petiolate leaves; the inferior leaves are heart-shaped and lobulated of 2 – 5 cm of length; the superior leaves are lanceolate lineal and much divided. This medicinal plant, the Anise, has white flowers of some 3 mm of diameter, joined in umbels, longly pedunculated, with five petals. The fruits of Anise have between 3 -5 mm of length, in diaquenio, aromatic and provided of 5 furrows. The anise is a medicinal plant with excellent medicinal properties.

MEDICINAL PROPERTIES:

  • Aerophagia: It helps to expel the excess of flatulence accumulated in the digestive apparatus. Take in infusion pinch of fruits of anise by cup of water. Take a cup before or after the main meals.
  • Anorexia: Take in infusion half little spoon of dry fruits of anise by cup of water. Drink a couple of cups a day.
  • Antiseptic: It’s antiseptic in the treatment of diseases of respiratory tracts or for the treatment of the ulcers of the mouth. Gargle with the mixed infusion on equal parts of crushed anise fruits and dry leaves of malvaviscus, mint and sage.
  • Asthma: Decreases the secretions in the asthma, is anti-inflammatory and antitussive. Take in mixed infusion half little spoon on equal parts of anise, mint and thyme. Drink two or three cups daily.
  • Breast-feeding problems: Stimulate to the mothers who breast-feed to produce more milk and help to eliminate the colics of the baby. Cooking of half little spoon of dry fruits of anise by cup of water. Drink two cups a day.
  • Bronchitis: It helps to expel the mucus and to lower the inflammation. Take in infusion half little spoon of dry fruits of anise by cup of water. Drink two or three cups a day after eating. Take 1 ml of tincture of anise two or three times a day.
  • Cold: Take in infusion half little spoon of dry fruits of anise by cup of water. Drink two or three cups a day after eating.
  • Cough: Take in infusion half little spoon of dry fruits of anise by cup of water. Drink two or three cups a day after eating. Take 1 ml of tincture of anise two or three times a day.
  • Difficult digestions: It helps the stomach to digest better the foods. Take in infusion during one little spoon of dry fruits of anise by glass of water. Drink two glasses a day. Marinade the 50% of crushed dry seeds of anise with dry root of Gentiana. Keep the mix in soaking during 10 days. Take a spoonful before eating.
  • Difficult menstruations: Fight against the problems of painful menstruations or delays or irregular menstruations. Take in infusion a little spoon of dry fruits of anise by cup of water. Drink three cups daily.
  • Diseases of the Nervous System: The anise is a sedative and calms the nerves. Take in infusion a little spoon of dry fruits of anise by cup of water. Drink a couple of cups a day.
  • Flatulence: It helps to eliminate the abdominal swelling and the pains that accompany the swollen stomach. Take in infusion during 10 minutes 1 little spoon of dry seeds of anise by cup of water. Drink a couple of cups a day taking three or four sips once in a while.
  • Gastritis: Avoid the “stomach nerves”. Take in infusion during 10 minutes 1 little spoon of dry seeds of anise by cup of water. Drink a couple of cups a day taking three or four sips once in a while.
  • Halitosis: Another of the fabulous properties of Anise is to treat the halitosis. It inhibits the growth of the bacteria in the mouth for which hides the bad breath of the mouth. Chew three or four fruits of anise after the meals.
  • Heartburn: It reduces the acidity produced by the gastritis or if it’s because of stress or nerves. Mix 100 grams of crushed fruits with 100 grams of sugar and 80 grams of coal in powder. Take 2.5 grams of this powder with a little of bread when the acidity appears.
  • Lack of appetite: The anise stimulates the digestion obtaining to open the appetite. Take in infusion half little spoon of dry fruits of anise by cup of water. Drink a couple of cups a day.
  • Lack of sexual desire: Maybe nobody imagined that inside of the medicinal properties of Anise was that of being an aphrodisiac able to increase the libido. Take a glass by the night of the infusion of a little spoon of ground seeds of anise in a liter of water. Don’t exceed the dose or take during long time to avoid secondary effects.
  • Laryngitis: Gargle with the mixed infusion on equal parts of crushed anise fruits and dry leaves of malvaviscus, mint and sage.
  • Mixed infusion to eliminate the flatulence and the swelling: The excellent medicinal properties of Anise take advantage of them mixing it in equal parts with the fruits of fennel, cumin and coriander. When we have the sensation of having the stomach too much swollen, we will make an infusion with a little spoon of the mix by glass of water.
  • Nerves: Help to feel calmer. Take in infusion a little spoon of dry fruits of anise by cup of water. Drink a couple of cups a day.
  • Nervous Asthenia (Neurasthenia): Help to raise the spirit. Take in infusion half little spoon on equal parts of fruits of anise and fennel. Drink a couple of cups a day.
  • Nervous dyspepsia: Take in infusion during 10 minutes 1 little spoon of dry seeds of anise by cup of water. Drink a couple of cups a day taking three or four sips once in a while.
  • Pharyngitis: Gargle with the mixed infusion on equal parts of crushed anise fruits and dry leaves of malvaviscus, mint and sage.
  • Respiratory diseases: It’s expectorant, anti-inflammatory and antitussive. Take in infusion half little spoon of dry fruits of anise by cup of water. Drink two or three cups a day after eating. Take 1 ml of tincture of anise two or three times a day.
  • Tonsillitis: Gargle with the mixed infusion on equal parts of crushed anise fruits and dry leaves of malvaviscus, mint and sage.
  • Ulcers of the mouth: Gargle with the mixed infusion on equal parts of crushed anise fruits and dry leaves of malvaviscus, mint and sage.
  • PRECAUTIONS AND TOXICITY
    The use of this plant, in appropriate dose, doesn’t present toxicity or contraindications, except some particular reactions in certain sensitive people to its components.
    They shouldn’t ingest the essential oil pregnant or breast-feeding women and the children less than 6 years. Equally it results counterproductive the internal use of this oil in people with problems of the digestive apparatus or diseases of neurological type.
    Used outwardly the essential oil can cause adverse reactions with appearance of blisters or dermatitis in allergic people or with inflammatory diseases of the skin.
    The internal use of essential oil in high dose is toxic. This has narcotic properties. It can produce narcosis, convulsions, circulatory problems, and even originate a coma. Its inappropriate use can cause symptoms similar to absinthism, a state that is produced by consuming too much absinthe, liquor that contains anethole. The absinthism is characterized basically by the lack of muscular strength with possible paralysis, convulsions and mental problems (lack of lucidity, persecution complex, etc.)

    COLLECTION AND PRESERVATION:
    The fruits of this plant are picked up in summer before they ripen completely. The plant is hung in a shadowy place so it’s dry. Once dried, it’s hit so the fruits fall down. These are dried at the shadow and kept in clean and hermetic recipients in a dry and shady place.
